200 is a thicker block that was made stiffer for the strains of the 4x4 having a diff bolted to the sump, the rs 500 had a 200 block allthough this had smaller core plugs which give it slightly more strength

rs500 has 205 block,different casting material with small core plug

Core plug is zero to do with strength, the small core RS500 block(205based) used a slightly different casting mix.
There are numerous other pinto blocks available, apart from 200/202/205, maybe not in this country, but I'm sure the 197 was used over here.

200 is only avaliable in 4x4/Escos models, it is a stronger block than the 205. Part of the reason it was used due to the transmission stress of the 4x4 models.
I'm sure there is no such thing as a 197, the number merely denotes the capacity i.e the 20, the 5 denotes 1985 which is the year when the block was revised, the 0 in 200 means 1990 and so on.
The 202 block was indeed a Transit block but it isn't as strong as a 200.
Before such times the block was simply a 20 or T88 block.
In the same way you can have a 165 block but obviously a 1600 Pinto.
2WD = 205
RS500 = 205 (bit stronger as the standard 2WD 205)
4WD = 200 (the strongest of all blocks and best for tuning basis)
The RS500 "205" IIRC was actually a little loop hole in the design process and was made specifically for the 500, it's just they kept the designation number the same, it's actually a different cast as said and is much stronger than the 205 (They had to be for the power they run).
Yes it should have YBD cast into the block by the water pump I should think, a normal "Cosworth" 205 will have YBB followed by a number. Also YBD (RS500) 205 has smaller core plugs as well.
