Default Fiesta ST starting problem

Hi, the past few months i have been having problems with my car starting, sometimes it starts and sometimes it take 2 attempts, i took it to the garage as the engine management light was on and its saying it was the lamba sensor, so i replaced that but light is still on and comming back as lamba sensor. The boy at the garage has sayed it could be the fuel pump? but i have looked into some forums and there saying it could be the ecu needs updated? has any1 had this problem and been able to solve it? all comments would be appreciated as i am completely lost to what it is and i need it fixed asap for getting a new car.

Thanks.

What's the exact fault code? When possible with number.

Did you change the right sensor? There are two.

A defective ecu is also possible, but that doesn't happen very often.
Have you used an original Ford sensor?

What's the fuel usage doing? More, same?
Fuel pump may cause the starting problem, but so could a leaking injector or a leaking fuel pressure regulator. Anything causing the fuel pressure to drop.
Does the fuel pump start to run when you turn the ignition on? When yes, wait 2 seconds before starting the engine.
According to another forum site alot of people have had a starting problem and say its the ecu but i would rather be certain before i go spend out money incase its not, not to sure if its a ford sensor i just went to the garage near me and he ordered 1 and fitted it for me, im going to the garage tonight so i will get the fault code

The fuels not the best but it did get better when i replaced the sensore.

Thanks for the comment

Yeah mate the idle is abit rough sometimes the idle is pritty high so do you reckon taking it to a ford dealer to update the ecu will solve this?
