Default pug 206, help needed!!!

before anyone shoots me down its my mums car lol a 2004 1.1,
last night she was pulling into her parking bay when the thing beeped at her and cut out, now its as the battery is dont have enough power to crank it but everything else works fine, i didnt have leads with me but today i bumped it and it started but as soon as i let it idle it did the same thing, i bumped it again, took it for a drive and when i got back it was idling but seemed to be missin but cleared after 1.5k revs, but when switched off after quite a while it was still the same but when i started it off a bump the abs light stayed on, the battery light goes out fine too, any thoughts peeps?
help would be much appreciated

Start by checking battery and alternator.
ABS light comes on when voltage drops too low.

but would the battery light not come on if it was alternator? and could the batter fail instantly as its been fine? could there be some sort of drain on the power from somewhere?

Yes the batt light would come on for alternator failure. A battery can fail instantly if it drops a cell, doesn't have to be a slow decline. I would be looking at battery.

cheers me fellow southender lol, ill have a gander tomoro, ill connect jump leads to it an if its fine that would indicate battery right?

It's clearly one of two things, either the battery cannot accept a charge and hence requires replacement or it's not getting charged. I would first start off with a meter and check the voltage at the battery WITH the engine running you want to be seeing 13V +, if so then try applying a load, by say, turning the headlights and blower on, at which point you still should not be seeing less than 13V, the light extinguishing should not be taken as gospel proof the charging system is good.
