hi there people, what kind of sound would the engine make if i had a bent valve.

my engine sounds lovley when it is at idle, but as soon as you rise the revs it sound like there is bits loose in there it just rattles.

i have fitted a new cam with new followers so i know its not them.

would the car still run if i had a bent valve?

the car is an rs turbo.

was it ok b4 you replaced the cam etc? did you run the new cam in? is there oil in the engine?

got any more info?

sounds like symptoms of some sort of ends are rumblng/knocking had the oil light come on while driving at all?

If it had bent valves the engine wouldn't run smooth any time

 

My car had 2 bent valves & still ran & sounded fine...didnt know anything about it until I took my head to get ported!!

turns out it is not the valve, its a bottom end problem, it is the big end, the shells are foooked.

basic the top of the shell had come all the way arund..

new shells to be fitted tomrrow.

 

my car ran minted with bent valves,tuners didnt even know what was up with it unytil they took head off,so thats not always the case

 

Dont bother with new shells mate , if its makeing that mutch noise it will need a grank grind over size shells and a oil pump, would be a good idear to get the rods checked as well.

Sorry m8 BUT if your car ran mint (your words) WHY would they of had to take the head of then NOT to find out some sort of running problem it MUST of HAD then OR do they just like taking heads off mint running engines

I think you would be better of taken engine out and rebuild the whole thing as just changing the ends will NOT be any good IF it was knocking m8 as Dave has said ends,crank reground,maybe rods(due to them having shells spin)oil pump and the list can go on m8

it was dettin at high revs after fuel mod on the rollin road,was makin less bhp than it did b4 fuel mod,tuner checked everythin because all engine checks were showin up ok,there was no tell tale signs that you relate with bent valves.didnt find out they were bent until head come off
as i said it was runnin mint,no bad idling or stuff,just not makin what it should have thats why head came off
