New Front Pads on a '92 RS2000 ,,GREASE ? ?
Hi , Is there anyone who can advise on the following:-....
Have just fitted new EBC discs (260mm) , Green Stuf Pads and refurbed the calipers with new seals & dust covers to the old pistons. The car is
a 1992 XR3i 1800cc ,130ps Zetec engined CABRIOLET fitted as OME with
RS2000 suspension and brake gear. The question is :-..
Should I lubricate the sliding surfaces of the .... pads to caliper ,and pads
to anchor bracket surface ? also is it recommended to grease the rear
(METAL SURFACE)of the pads, if so what grease should I use for both the
above aplications... your advice and comments would be appreciated...
Thanks Guys...............Rustler....."The oldest cabbier.".

There is dedicated rubber grease, but failing that you can use coppaslip, on the rear of the pads, if you wish(I never do), and on the caliper where the MOVING pad touches it, ie the pad that is nearest the piston, the other pad doesn't move in relation to it's bracket.
Defo clean off and grease the slider pins also.

What are you doing in France ?, what's the modded car scene like there ?
I used to stay in france every week just for 1-2 nights, can't remember much modded stuff, seem to remember the yearly french "mot" test was a killer ?

Hi...
My apologies for a late reply. Yea' we retired to S/W France some 5yrs ago,
only wished we'd moved across earlier,as we now have a really great time here.
The weather is fantastic and our social life here is great, hence the reason for my late reply.
CARS !......absolutely nothing in the way of mod's,apart from alloy rims and
big bore exhausts, and there's very little in the way of good accessory shops.
It seems that most components are sold in the hypermarkets these days.I usually
have my requirements posted over from the UK,even with the cost of postage
it works out less expensive, but "HEY HO" life otherwise is good .. No! we've
not had any probs with the French MOT.."CONTROL TECHNIQUE",.Each test lasts for a two year period, and one gets quite a long period to arrange for any defects to be rectified. However, getting one's vehicle registered with French
plates is another thing,it's certainly quite stressful , haven't had the CABBY
done yet,not something I'm looking forward to. The plus point out here is the
absence of "ROAD TAX" which is great when you run three vehicles, and the
insurance is slightly less than in the UK. Fuel however , is gradually creeping up ,but diesel is still cheaper than that in the UK... The high light of our
motoring year is the annual "Round The Houses Race" at ANGOULEME,about
20ml from here,Angouleme is an ancient walled city, that hosts this event.
It's a 3 day event ,with practice runs ,a 150km rally around the CHARENT
country side, and a CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE on the Saturday and a full day of racing on the Sunday. Most of the cars are BUGGATIEs with a large assortment of pre,1975 cars participating in the other full race program through the day.The entrance fee for the Sunday race day is usually around
12 to 15 euros...a really great day out..Could go on and on but have probably
bored you enough now... Thanks again for your input to my questions

Sounds ace, must admit always found the french friendly, used to drive through there every week, on my way to germany, belgium, holland etc, though french customs at the hover port(many years ago now!!) could be quite picky sometimes.
I just don't get the give way to cars coming ONTO the roundabouts, rather than our uk way, which imo works much better.
French ladies are nice, esp Vanessa Paradis!!.

I travelled from Dover to Calais on the hovercraft from 94-99, the last sailing of the Hovercraft was Sunday 1st October 2000.
I remember one crossing really well, in a force 6 gale, jesus it was crap my pants time, lucky to get over that day as was last sailing of the day, if I missed the hover, or it wasn't sailing, weather etc I used the car ferry instead, which I liked better tbh, hover was noisy as hell in comparison, good fun though.
I'm 45 years young, how old are you, you must be at least 100 ha ha!!

OOPS.!!! wrong hoverport ,wrong era'....I must have put 20yrs onto your age
by assuming you travelled from RAMSGATE as we did. I think we'd moved from
the South East to Cornwall long before the Dover / Calais service began,so
Dover didn't enter into the equation... However my wife reminded me that
our eldest son used the Dover route when travelling back to Germany when he
was with BFPO, sometime in the '80's...
Yea.. your "Very Nearly" right, .. only another 23yrs to become a "TON UP
CABBIER" . The cabby should still be going strong by then ,she's just clocked
her first 42700 and in my opinion is in absolutely great condition. So far I
haven't found a rust spot anywhere, and the paint work in the engine comp'
is even better than her exterior. She's in far better nick than I,can't see my
engine or bodywork lasting much more than the next few laps!! But Hey,Ho,
When I wake her from her winter slumber in the next few weeks we'll do a
"Ton Together" again....assuming these new EBC brake assemblies, complete
with the "GRAISSE CUIVRE" pass that French MOT test....

I was a brat living in Germany from 65-82, as pops did 27 years in army, thought germany was ace, but maybe I was really lucky, had a olympic size outdoor swimming pool about 200 feet away, plus running tracks, footy fields etc, I used to run up the "clippe"(2nd world war 2 tower) on the ridge 2 times every week, was knackering, and always did the army ridge runs as well.
