Hi...
My apologies for a late reply. Yea' we retired to S/W France some 5yrs ago,
only wished we'd moved across earlier,as we now have a really great time here.
The weather is fantastic and our social life here is great, hence the reason for my late reply.
CARS !......absolutely nothing in the way of mod's,apart from alloy rims and
big bore exhausts, and there's very little in the way of good accessory shops.
It seems that most components are sold in the hypermarkets these days.I usually
have my requirements posted over from the UK,even with the cost of postage
it works out less expensive, but "HEY HO" life otherwise is good .. No! we've
not had any probs with the French MOT.."CONTROL TECHNIQUE",.Each test lasts for a two year period, and one gets quite a long period to arrange for any defects to be rectified. However, getting one's vehicle registered with French
plates is another thing,it's certainly quite stressful , haven't had the CABBY
done yet,not something I'm looking forward to. The plus point out here is the
absence of "ROAD TAX" which is great when you run three vehicles, and the
insurance is slightly less than in the UK. Fuel however , is gradually creeping up ,but diesel is still cheaper than that in the UK... The high light of our
motoring year is the annual "Round The Houses Race" at ANGOULEME,about
20ml from here,Angouleme is an ancient walled city, that hosts this event.
It's a 3 day event ,with practice runs ,a 150km rally around the CHARENT
country side, and a CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE on the Saturday and a full day of racing on the Sunday. Most of the cars are BUGGATIEs with a large assortment of pre,1975 cars participating in the other full race program through the day.The entrance fee for the Sunday race day is usually around
12 to 15 euros...a really great day out..Could go on and on but have probably
bored you enough now... Thanks again for your input to my questions
