excessive fuel consumption
Came to my favorite place for advice! Got a mk2 fester with a 1300 cvh fitted with a 1400 twin choke Weber and the fuel consumption is terrible average about 12 MPG! !!!!!!! And that's without booting it! Any ideas anyone?
Ps
Put it on aftermarket (cheap option being megasquirt) and get it mapped properly!
Will save you SO much money in the long run, carbs are a load of old fucking shite that have no place in the modern world!

I would rather run a Carb all day rather than injection. Lol and the plugs ain't even sooty it run and idle perfect all day its just using bucketful of fuel?
I wouldnt, I like the great fuel economy and increases power that I get from running on injection and hence having more accurate fuelling, which improves both power and economy at once.
Take your car to someone with a wideband, you'll soon know then if its the carb to blame for the crap economy or not

Its only running 0.6 higher than the standard reading. Yeah it is the one with the vacuum secondary but its working fine its even got the people at work at my brothers garage miffed?
There's few carbs with vac secondarys fitted to fords, but I'd bet yours is the either the 28/30 TLDM, or the 28/30 DFTM.
As it is running ok, I can't see it actually consuming that much fuel, maybe it is leaking elsewhere, if the vac sec was stuck open it would run like a bag of poo, I would first check if the power valve system diaphragm is perished.
A decent carb set up well is not a no no by any means, some carbs are even fitted to CAT cars, not as accurate as efi, but I'd have a carb over mfi any day of the week.
