Tuning A 1.8 TDDi 90PS Engine - Intercooler??
Hi all, I was wondering if fitting a bigger intercooler to my Focus would give any gains (preferably torque ) at all?
Also, what is the next stage for more BHP for me? I have a tuning box already, I know a remap would be better but what stage would be next?
Thanks for any advice.
EDIT: I also fitted a boost controller to my car last night but i'm not sure if its had any effect. Does the ECU limit the boost also?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
The ecu will limit boost, airflow (if it has an air mass sensor) and the amount of diesel injected (smoke limit).
It all depends on your tuning box how much of that is active or changed.
Without more diesel, there's little use for more or colder air.

Fuel Pump 1.8tddi 90PS intercooled.
Any clue on you screw out the fuel pump on the 1.8tddi intercooled lump?
got a 51 plate focus estate with the above engine and it's just lacking that tiny bit extra. had a good google/ search through this site/ other sites and not come across anything particularly helpful.
and help would be great!
Thanks.

I have the same car and the only way you can adjust the pump is via a remap.
It is a distributor type pump thats electronically controlled. There is no 'adjustment' it is all done by the ECU.
The turbo is a Garrett GT15 which (on mine) makes about 20psi peak and drops off to 18ish after 3200ish RPM.
The turbo will never really push the car past 140bhp max, ive remampped mine with a Pipercross panel filter and ive gone from 90bhp at the flywheel to 113bhp, which is a very healthy increase, its also just over 260nm of torque which is a lot! and from 44mpg up to nearly 50!
You can put a slightly bigger intercooler in the front bumper and you should see another 5bhp, empty the CAT out you should hit 120bhp with some Shell Optimax.
A bigger intercooler wont do much as the turbo doesnt flow a lot of air, it flows a small amount at high pressure, along with not being a VNT turbo you dont get a lot of bottom end power as you do in the TDCi, but you do get decent reliable injectors!
Get a remap and enjoy the benifits, im sure it wouldnt be too hard to fit a bigger turbo and a mechanical pump and tune the engine into the 160bhp mark.
