Are tuning boxing any good?
hi all, I'm new to this site😳 so any advice would be thankful! I drive a focus MK 1 tddi estate which I have done a few things to it, but also has a tuning box fitted which seems to make a difference, but these good for your engine

I don't think they will do any harm but try to use the best quality diesel you can and make sure you keep it well serviced, the tuning boxes only open up the parameters of safety for poor fuel etc in other countries and some times are a bit sooty....I guess there are good and bad ones.

Welcome to the forum by the way. I have never heard of a remap AND a tuning box, I wonder if they would conflict. IMO I would prefer a remap to a tuning box as it is bespoke to the car rather than generic.

Thanks for getting back to me on this caddyshack seems to run fine with both somehow, with the remap it felt ok but didn't really pull well low down, so fitted box back on now more response?

I think one down side of tuning a diesel is smoke, the manufacturers keep the limits low to reduce smoke

thinking de cat next maybe?[/QUOTE]
I used to have a connect tdci. Running a tuning box gave better low down power, but a remap gave better overall performance. I think all the tuning box does is increase fuel pressure.
I now have a focus tddi. I blanked the egr, k&n panel filter, decat and remap.
Fmic next I think.
Decat will make it rev much more freely, especially at higher revs.
All you do is take the downpipe off and get a large screwdriver and hammer and bash the cat out. Looks stock for the test then too.
