Sierra 1.8 Engine options
Hi all
I have got my self a solid little cosworth replica with the 1.8 CVH engine. Its not up to much though. Feels pretty lifeless compared to what im used to. I was going to look at putting an RS turbo engine in it as i have one sat in my garage but have decided against going down the turbo route as need a little economy for everyday driving.
I was considereing the following, wanted your ideas if it will work.
Either Keep it running carb, or go down the bike carbs or Twin 40/45s
I was going to buy a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec bottom end and mate it with a 1.6 Hemi head.
Not got loads of money to go throwing at this due to other commitments.
opinions?

The 1.8 and the 1.6 are completely different engines bar the name, the 1.8 is actually an American engine and based on the 1.9 "Tall block" If you wanted to keep it I should think a set of carbs may help things, as standard it has a Pierburg carb, later models were CFI.
The second option is quite common as well and known as a ZVH, however I am not sure whats involved in doing so alot of them are usually 1.9.

Maybe a pinto 2L conversion, much more potential that way as well.
The pierburg I think in them is a 2E3, in which case it is actually a very underated carb, I've replaced webers for these in the past, all picked up power and mpg at the same time.
If so it is I seem to remember a vac secondary ?, if so cut 1 1/2 coils of the spring off, the secondary will open sooner, this will make a difference, and it's free.
A huge amount of these carbs made it out the factory with a incompletely drilled through vac stub for the choke vac pull down and caused all sorts of troubles, taken loads off drilled all the way through, end of trouble with chokes.
