Default Yb 2wd breather system.

Hi all, as above I've got two breathers on the engine as you stand at the front of the car, left side low down at the back of the block, I was going to pipe that to a catch tank. But what about the one on the right side of the engine near the oil filter, it has a chamber on it.
Would this also need to go to the catch tank or can It be left open?
It's hard to get a pipe on it because it's up against the inlet.

Any advice on this would be nice.

Cheers andy.

My mates Spec R setup has a pipe from the left side of the engine block and cam cover breathing into the top section of the breather tank, the one you mention connets to the bottom of the breaher tank.

The tank then breathes into another tank which then breathes to atmosphere.

There are LOADS of opinions on how they should be done, I know his seems to work so I use that as a good basis to work from.

Most:
-Breathe from inlet side (flame trap/kidney box)
-Breathe from rocker cover
-Return to exhaust side

Ideal way:
-Breathe from both sides of the block
-Breathe from rocker cover
-Return to sump below oil level (get a fitting welded into the sump, with one way valve)

Breathing from the rocker cover is optional on both, some say do it, some don't

Cheers guys that helps. I'm going to keep it simple and put both breathers to a catch tank with a breathing cap, no rocker pipe don't want to drill the cover.
What do people do with the flame trap/kidneybox? As pipe holes alot bigger than normal 1/2 inch breather pipe.

Cheers andy

Where does that pipe go on a standard set up?

goes from memory into a plastic thing that has a filter in it, then theres a long breather pipe that goes round the front of the engine bay to the airbox!!! Think another pipe also comes off it and goes onto the inlet plenum.

Been a bloody long time since ive seen a standard set up thou lol

Think I'm going to try the "Ideal Way" that James has mentioned.

I've a -10 fitting on my Big Wing Sump for the return and I've sorted a Outlet on my Cam Cover.

The Left-Hand side is good to go but not sure what size the thread is ?

It's the Right-Hand side that has me scrathing my head.
If I bin the Kidney Box (which I'm guessing is just a Flame Arrestor) and run a pipe to a Catch Tank can I also scrap the One-Way Valve that's sticking out of the Plenum ?

In an ideal world would creating negative pressure in the crankcase be the solution, and not having the rocker cover breather,so as to make sure the negative pressure pulls the oil out of the head
sorry for opening an old thread
