Chatter on boost? Isn't that surge?!

If you are willing to spend 2 grand for the sake of a noise then EFI conversion would achieve just that.

Honestly I think that efi chatter sounds pathetic as its to high pitched.

Videos examples are fiesta's, dont know if the turbo size would make much difference or not? hopefully someone will shed some light.

Turbo size depicts the chatter noise as well as boost level and engine size, usually small turbo equals high pitch (t25, t28 etc) and bigh turbo equals a more slower low pitch chatter, t34, t4 etc. the more boost you run the higher the pitch as a rule also.

Chatter is Turbo stall and is bad for turbos, it puts strain on the turbo and will shorten the life of it, why would you want that??
You close the butterfly and excess boost back up and pushes its way back through the turbo THE WRONG WAY and the noise is the blades chopping the air up. Now your turbo is stalled you have lost boost?? You dont want turbo stall

Here goes another debate. Surely to actually "stall" a spinning turbo you would need more pressure returning than the actually boost itself? You think how fast those blades are spinning, and the shape they are to force airflow effectivly one way. Rushing air the other way would need a hell of alot to actually stop them.
Also, Between gears, a d/v realeases all boost pressure so the turbo needs to charge the cross over again before power returns. I found My erst running 15psi has less "lag" between gears without a d/v.

The other thing, My Turbo is nearly 3 years old now, every day car, running 17psi, not even a hint of shaft play. So it cant be that bad surely?

You can get a nice bit of chatter on MFI. Just not really loud like EFI. Anything over 14psi iirc on mfi you can get audible chatter.

Will have to try and get some footage of my car another day. I actually prefer it to the sound of efi chatter.

Aye it's a 2.0 Duratec in the mk6 Fiesta, but all those clips you posted being efi cars shows that it's not the efi that controls the way the chatter sounds, as they all sound different.

Probably using "EFI" as the defining feature was a mistake on my part.
Its the difference between MFI and EFI that gives you the louder chatter. However I'm not sure what makes them sound so awful lol.

The classic Cosworth Chatter is the king, but T3 EFi chatter sounds pretty cool 2!

MFi's dont chatter much as the airbox/associated pipework deadens the noise slightly, although that said its still audible esp when running some decent boost!

Obviously an EFi if fitted with a cone filter has no box/not much pipework to deaden the sound that comes from the turbo!

so how can i achieve a slightly louder chatter from my mfi rst?, obviously remove dump valve, how about removed air filter and fit something mesh over where the cone would sit on the metering unit?

fit metal boost pipes????

obviously i mean a sort of mesh that would stop crap gettin sucked in.
as i no the filter must dull the noise slightly aswell.
i would have thought with something like that on the metering unit and at least a bar of boost it should make it sound a bit louder????
