wastegate chatter?
hi ppl. not so long ago i sold my 1990 2wd saph cossie. had a dump valve on when i bought it but took it off as i prefered the sound of the chattering. got a 1990 S2 now. also fitted with dump valve. took it off the other day but i dont get the chattering that the cossie used to have. why is this and is there anyway to make it chatter? any help would be much appreciated

its cus of the ke-jetronic!
dont know exactly why but efi chatters like fook! an mfi..genrally dont chatter unless u running a shed load of boo0st and it still wont sound like efi!
so either get efi conversion! which is expensive just for some chatter! or get used to it just doin a little bit of chatter! get a big cone filter on that will help!

i thought the Metering head is the only reason a MFI doesn't chatter as it obstructs the airflow from the turbo?
Mines running EFI and F#ck me does it chatter

You will not hear any sound from the wastegate. When the pressure builds up after you have shut the throttle, the air will escape through the compressor of the turbo and will make the chattering sound. The sensor plate in the the KE-Jetronic unit will slam shut because of this pressure and will dampen the sound.

anyone who has a stadard RST and gets chatter needs a new meetering head! The reason an MFi car wont chatter is as is said above that the metering flap is shutt hence the noise is almost un-audible... if you can hear a significant ammount of chatter then you meetering flap is not shutting propperly and hence the meetering head needs an overhaul.
