Hi lads, jus got my first rs turbo and i've got a few questions. Looking through all the bills i noticed a bit of paper saying " 195 chip activated when new switch is renewed" whats all this about? it does feel quick but there is a rattle coming from the downpipe flap that the wastegate connects to, and the boost feels lke it comes in at 3k. going to get a new -31 and a boost gauge to see what boost its running. Hope u dont mind if i ask a few more quesions when i sort this out.

cheers, i'll take some pics when i sort out a few jobs on it. only paid £800 for it. It's white 89 f plate 15" BK racing wheels. Usual things like stainless exhaust, K+N, dump valve. Lots of bills as well, engine rebuild 2000, and its solid - no rot.

Anybody got any ideas on this chip and rattle as mentioned above.

 

rattle cld be the wastegate if the actuator is completely fubar, boost wil come in about 3/3.3kish

the boost can be adjusted by moving the actuator
i think mine comes in around 3k

 

i know what the rattle is now. How do i know if the car is chipped without taking the ecu to bits. is there 2 chips (1 ignition/boost 2 fuel) I dont want the car to be overboosting without having the fuel to match. Like i said it does feel quick, would guess from experiance its running about 160-170bhp

 

you need a boost gauge mate, if it runs over 10 psi then its chipped, if its not chipped then it will cut out at 10.5 psi, normally if u open the ecu, one of the long chips inside will proberly have something written on it, or a sticker on it if its chipped.

That switch thing is strange, only thing i can think of is that some people has a switch on their dash which disables the power to the amal valve which cuts your boost. perhaps something there?, or a dodgy amal valve, disconnect it and put in a bleed valve

 

i know when the previous owner first got the car, there was no amal valve fitted, so he bought 1 from ford and put it in. Dont know if it made a differance, but when i turn the ignition on the amal valve makes a clicking noise.
