Default 4x4-no drive at front wheels

i found out while on a rolling road today that my saff 4x4 is now 2wd,theres no drive to the front wheels.
whats causing this?
i guess the centre diff but how can i diagnose it? and how big a job is it to change?
thanks

i know this may sound a stupid question but has it still got all the 4x4 stuff? many get converted to rwd. or have the front shafts fallen out at some point??

I stripped and re built an mt75 box mate, you have to take the rear casing off to do the coupling, its fairly major strip down and re-build, but nothing too technical. I had a realy good viscous coupling up until last week when a mate took it away with some other spares! i could see if he still has it?

YES, this is where the word viscous comes from, a HYDRODYNAMIC friction between two surfaces to transmit a appropriate designed in amount of torque from one surface to another, usually using high viscosity silicone fluids.

mine had done this too

was at TOTD and front wheels werent spinning

it viscous coupling and cts do them for around £250 and about £50 fitting just have to take your box to them
even as VC has gone and rwd ,mine seems to be 4wd at times on the road
its not just a case of it being rwd now ,if you want it rwd you will have to convert it using 2wd parts .

hope this helps

my escort cossie done this and im thinking of going 2wd conversion
