Default Cams & Lifters

Hey guys, had a post up about one of adjusting bolts snapping and got replacement to find it wont stay at correct clearance either not as bad but just wondering if you can change the lifters as they are solid? Or is it still same principle for if you change lifters you change cam aswell? cam has only done 2000 miles, lifters were out an rs1600i but set I sourced look in alot better condition. Thanks for any help!

Although physically you can swap the followers no doubt for the std hydraulic items, the cam may well have a quietning ramp on the lobes for solid tappets, shouldn't really be a problem though, but then neither are a good set of solid, adjusties like you have or a shim adjusty set is easy enough to make for the cvh if no one does it already, as loads of clearance for them measuring wise, these stay in gap so long might be a better bet if you don't want to go hydraulic for some reason, such as really wild cam etc in the future.

hi mate, its an uprated cam, VERY racey, my headgasket went so instead of machining my old head etc it was cheaper to bolt this one on and give some more horses. The old head had hydraulic lifters but the new head came with solid lifters so that what in it just now. You answered my last post about the adjusting bolt which broke into 3 bits? I sourced these solid lifters but they are a different locking system to lifters in the head just now so was going to change them all over, just wanted to see if this is possible, as of cam wear etc but it only done 2000 miles so thought it would be ok? Reason I want to swap is these lifters look alot better and have a different lock and adjust compared to the shim ones in it just now hope this makes some sense lol

So long as the pads of the followers don't have any wear ridges/grooves should be ok, not normally a done thing, but if you look the tappet is offset slightly so the idea is they turn in the head a fraction after each contact so they wear over the whole of the surface to keep wear even.
As a last resort you could use shim ones, but sure those you have would be ok, so long as they and cam have no wear, 2K should be perfect.
