got a bearing to do on my focus and was wondering how easy of a job it is to do before i make a start on it?

i've heard the rears can be done on the drive but the fronts have to be pressed in and out. if you want to save some money you could ask your garage if thy will just press the old bearing out and the new one in if you just take them the hub as its not a hard job taking it off.

i'm sure someone else who's had bearings done will pipe up soon

nope rears ae pressed in too i tried doing one on drive before then found out they pressed in

so will need pressing out and new one in

what year is it? has it got rear drums or discs?

rears are not press in,

easiest way is on a press for both front and rear. strip down is easy enuff.
just beware, if its got ABS, then the pick up is a magnetic ring on one side of the bearing,
so be wary of which way round u fit the bearings as they are sided.

Changed a Rear Bearing on a 2001 Focus Rear Disc Hub ... Had to Push IN/OUT> ..

if its a drum it is not press in.

if it is a disc then as said it is a press in

did that require the use of a hydraulic press or can you use a pulley puller to get the old one off and a shocket and hammer to get the new on on????

i had a drum one on a v reg 2000 one that was !!! pressed in

had to be done on a press phil

Tried to bray it out with a socket/14lber .. Didnt budge and didnt wanna damage anything as the Hub is a one off.

In the end, Pressed the bearing out/in on a bench mounted Hydraulic Press.

ah ok, thanks for the future info guys. my w reg 2l zetec is on 105,000 miles and never had a bearing done and i wondered if the rears were doable myself.

jasonnjane, its a garage job i'm afraid but you can strip down to bare hubs easy on the drive so may save some garage labour if your garage will do that.

its a front bearing..we have a press at work but off this week and its an hour to work...think i will have to bite the bullet and take it to a garage!
