CVH cam
I'm needing to change the cam and followers in my Escort, as is rattling like hell now, and may as well slip in an uprated one while im doing the job.
It's a 1989/1990 Ford Escort Sport, 1.6 CVH, carb feb (weber 28/32[TLDM?]) with Ashley 4-branch manifold and Ashley full system.
I want to liven the car up, but don't want something that will make it unable to tick over, and need to be driven absolutly balls out everywhere, so i'm hoping folk with experience can advise me on what brand and model of cam would be best suited.
Thanks all

I've not had much to do with these tuning wise, but a swap to the same carb as the xr3, early mk2 xr2 will defo help, these put out 96bhp as std, add a fast road cam from piper or kent, then get jetted/set up!!

Do you know what carb. the XR2/3's wore as standard? I've seen allsorts listed on the old b-Gay as XR carbs, 28/32, 32/34, DFT, DMTL and im a bit confused.
My car has a round top, twin choke weber, which i am pretty certain is a 28/32 TLDM. This is definately not an XR carb?
Cheers

The XR3 carb and the early mk2 XR2, and mk1 XR2 all used the weber 32DFT, XR2 from 81-86 were 32DFT, all XR3 were 32DFT, later mk2 XR2 were 28/32TLDM, vacuum controlled secondary, where as the 32DFT was mechanical secondary.
It has to be said the early 1300cc XR2 used a smaller version of the 32DFT with venturis of 22mm and 22mm, and the 1600cc engines used the carb in 24mm and 25mm venturi sizes.
All in all a pretty good carb tbh is the 32DFT.

Ill keep an eye out then, i assume the 32DFT was a single choke? I have seen 32/34 (i think...) DFT's...
Im looking at buying a kent cams KCCV22, can anyone say if it will be neccesary to change the valve springs for uprated ones, or is it not neccesary. It looks as if there are two kits, one being cam and lifters, the other being cam, lifters, valve springs, stem seals, and its quite a price difference. I don't mind spending money and buying a full kit if needs be, am not cutting corners, but if i don't have to, i don't have to.
Cheers

I'd certainly install new followers, the cvh is well known for being hard on these anyway.
Depending in mileage it may be wise whilst doing the cam to put on new stem seals/springs etc, but decent std springs will cope with this cam otherwise, the CVH22 cam is very good.
The 32DFT is NOT a single choke as you call it, it has a primary venturi of 24mm and the secondary venturi is 25mm, the main difference is this is operated purely by the position of the primary venturi, and not by vacuum, much better for performance, foot down and both venturis primary 24mm and secondary 25mm are open.
