Cool Which engine is best

Well firstly I'll say hello as I'm new on here. Now the
story is I own a cvh mk4 5 door escort which I have
owned for quite a while now nearly ten years.I had fitted
an xr2 engine on twin 40 webers but have now takin the
notion i want 16v on throttle bodies and would like as
close to 200bhp as possible. The question I have is what
engine do I start with,I have an rst escort box to use for
conversion but doi use an st 170 or black top or silver top
zetec's. Any help as to which better to use and strongest
would be a great help.

I'd give a serious consideration to budget first, and make of engine, you don't have to stay ford, vaux's red top is well worth going for and vastly better imo than the zetec.
If sticking for the duratec would be better, 200bhp is a walk in the park for these, won't even break a sweat at this low level.

yeah but a duratec won't mate to anything he already has? or a redtop? 2.0 blacktop or st170 lump is your best bet i would say

Budget isn't major and as for red top I'm not a fan. I
think I am goin to go black top zetec this will be an
ongoing project. Were is the best place to go jenveys
with loom and management and all included I'll be
fitting it myself. What all will I need to do engine wise
to get close to my figure, I would also like to leave it
driveable as a daily, I also forgot to mention I have an
ap clutch there as I had intended building the cvh but
just went off the idea, can it work with a balck top which
flywheel would I use.

use 1.8 flywheel and clutch onto the IB5 box. Gas flowed head, lairy cams and throttle bodies set up properly would be pushing 200. ARP bottom end bolts are recommended. The more you tune the engine the less daily-friendly it becomes lol

True, for a daily i would consider a turbo, low boost and standard internals for your 200 bhp. better to drive and more torque. Or powerworks supercharger? not had experience of the charger though so i cant comment on that. all of these conversions need programmable efi, so i would leave the cams and head stock and go for a bit of boost, this is my personal opinion.

i think if you try and run boost thru a standard engine you'll melt something

ive turboed four standard engines up to a bar of boost and they made good power and lasted well. Bad tuning fucks engines. In order for a car to make 200 horsepower it needs 200 horsepowers worth of air and fuel, either helped in with a turbo OR cams and headwork, its still the same thing. turbos are actualy said to be softer on engines mechanicaly as the release of energy in the cylinder is more linear than the sudden release of a high compression NA engine.

Everyone knows air flow is horsepower. If your happy running boost on standard internals go for it. NA tuning maybe isn't the best option for this chap, but if you're going to build a turbo lump do it properly.

When I say daily driver I can live with a paddle clutch as
my skyline is running just over 300 brake on one.I've got
no bother driving it. I'd prefer to stay n/a to be honest
and ifi got 180 brake even I'd be happy enough, I really want
the throttle body note if I'm honest.
