help need more power (alot more)
Hi people i currently own a ford escort gti zetech 16v with k&n filter, was thinking about adding a 2.0l throttle body prob from a mondeo but will it just simply replace my old throttle body or will i have to do any mods and how much more power will it give, also what else can i do to get more power without a turbo conversion as i dont have much cash due to having 3 kids and a misses and only a £15000 a year paid job, thanks

depends what your budget is matey. I had a mk3 fez with gti engine out escort, had fast road cams, boost valve, 4-2-1 ashley manifold, decat, ashley system back, 2 litre throttle body and maf sensor, powertech air filter was running 160 bhp.
the throttle body bolts straight on if iirc but may need a bit of fetling for the throttle cable mount, tbh it may add a few bhp and make throttle response that bit better but not a whole lot. depending on budget have you thought about bike carbs? throttle bodies? 40's etc? Not as expensive as the turbo route and can get a good amount of power out zetec.
I owned a escort si same bhp engine standard as gti, had a powerflow stainless system, decat, chip, air filter and boost valve, my mates rs2000 couldnt look at it.

You can't just bung a bigger MAF on with the original ECU and expect it to run right. The MAF and ECU are calibrated to work together and changing the MAF will throw the calibration right out unless you have a custom map. The fuel consumption would go through the roof which is no good if you're on a tight budget.

i think you need a 2l ECU, get s the ECU, cams, maf sensor and throttloe body off a 2l, and the bootom end to if you want. then youll have about 135 , exhaust (with decat and give the mot a back hander ) and inductuion kit might add about 10 more as well
then a st170 manifold and a chip
then a st170 manifold and a chip

depends on your taste on cams, I had kent fast road cams in my zetec, werent too lumpy and still had a gd daily driver, power band was 2000-6500 revs. think the kit including followers etc from kent is 800 may be cheaper now but get cams alone cheaper. as for 2 litre stuff few people have said you need ecu, although my conversion to gti included the 1.8 engine and 2 litre throttle body etc it still ran on the 1.6 ecu! with no problems so better asking someone who knows exactly what to do about that. Although the main thing here WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF FORDS
