Default help needed on tuning focus 1.6

im looking at trying to get a bit more "umph" from my mk1.5 1600 focus without going down extreme routes.

ive looked at a st170 but the extra for the car and insurance and running costs (ive heared that you never stop visiting the petrol staton) renders it pointless in my eyes.

ive looked at remaps and for a few hundred quid you get 10bhp extra. i stumbled accross nos and got very giddy at the results for the same price as a remap.

i would like to know the best ways of getting the extra power without breaking the bank and what are the disadvantages of using nos on a standard engine or just in general?

help much appreciated.

Don't even bother. It is an utter waste of time and money on such a weedy engine. Just put the cash towards a better car.

I agree, unless your going to go down the forced induction / throttle body route then its a big waste of time really IMO.

Buy a 2.0 zetec mate and do some light tuning there and you should hit 140-150bhp with matching torque and have a properly pokey motor that costs a fraction of an ST170 and with a fraction of the running costs. Well worth it.

don't listen to them get lowerd, induction kit, manifold, sports cat and s/s exhaust.
Then even if your not going fast it will sound like it.

But the OP asked how to make it fast, rather than how to make it sound fast....

in short you can't, without spending a decent amount of cash I know i have 1 with the above spec. saving weight would be the best value for money way of making it faster.

thats what i thought... was just considering the options as im not a fan of bolting half of the halfords catologue to my car like some people and having a loud car that doesnt go very quick and attracts the 50.
