Default Manual Boost controller

Lads quick questions, this for FRS Mark 1 -

1. can you run a manual boost controller (Bleed type) on a standard actuator and turbo and set to say 19psi?

Mods i have are Gen 2, Forge recirc, decat pipe, iridium plugs, motorsport leads and DSF2000 with 3 maps.

2. Also will i have to get the car rolling road tuned or will the standard ECU correctly adjust for fuelling etc. for the increased boost pressure? Thanks

It would amaze me if a standard ecu would even let you get to 19 psi.
Most likely it will shut down the injectors because the boost is way too high.
And NO, it will not adjust fuelling and ignition to this boost.
It probably can't even measure this boost with the standard sensors.

Ya i kinda thought there was a max boost pressure allowance pre set into the ecu. Looks like i'll have to go route 2 and fit a forge actuator and get it mapped properly. Thanks for that.

You would also need a other map sensor to measure the higher boost.

Don't think FRS would have MAP rather a MAF. If you have Dreamscience maps then it should run the desired amount of boost and adjust fuel/timing accordingly, WITHOUT having a need to install a bleed valve, you will actually make the car worse with this as it's a mechanical affair and as such ECU will have NO control over boost, don't understand why people want to use they have less control than ECU has, also if setup to run to much boost you will lose your engine.

Why do you think it needs to run 19PSI, and presumably you have uprated turbo as well?

Just trying a couple of things. I have heard of a few people running 22psi on the standard turbo with a forge actuator and even guys running over 300 brake on the standard turbo!!!! which is a bit mad i think.

Problem is there is no one over here (Ireland) that knows anything about these cars and not many places to take the car to get it rolling road tuned so i'm lookin at doing a bit of DIY maybe but i'll be very cagey about it as i don't want to f**k anything up.

You may well be able to run that sort of boost on the standard turbo but for how long is the question!

What boost are you making at the moment?

Martin,

Running standard boost at the moment but would like to turn it up to 18 or 19psi so thats only 3 or 4 psi over standard which i think should be ok but just worried bout the need to get it mapped.

What do ya think????

No it's not, it's not as simple as just winding up the boost, put simply the ECU standard MAP contains tables to run the standard boost pressure along with many other parameters for a standard engine. Wind the boost up and you need to "Remap" the ECU with calibrations for timing, fueling etc to complement the higher boost pressure else you will end up with a lean running engine which will melt, not to mention the ECU will have a predefined boost limit which when reached will active overboost protection. If you have a dream science remap this should run higher boost.

I presume simply plugging in the dreamscience and loading up the Race+ map will not increase the boost pressure. I have to manually adjust the actuator rod and set it at the increased boost pressure to achieve this????
