A weak point in the clutch set up on escorts, can be modded to manual adj and metal quadrant. Another sign of a failing quadrant is that it will click when the padal comes up.

Used to do these in my sleep , it is an easy job on the Escorts , even easier if you remove the drivers seat so you can lie on your back , and pull the ratchet spring off first so it releases the tension on the little red pedal bushes .

Had to do this couple weeks ago on mates mk3.

It wasnt easy, at all, the bar that went through the pedals had swollen on the end with flat machined onto it. Luckily his knocked out with hammer easy enough but was swapping for mine so he could get home again next mornin and mine needed air belt sander on end to make it slip through the hole.

After that its 15 mins to get it back together. Just remember which bushes go where and use correct grease.

How easy is this to do? Any details?

Wouldn't mind doing this on mine as wont be used as daily so low miles, just dont fancy it breaking after rebuilding the whole car. Looking at the design it looked ok, but mates appeared to be made of cheese so it's likely a replacement will be same.

Did you fit the std pedal again or did you put a mk7 one on found fitting a mk7 with the non adjusting ratchet was just the ticket as fitted a helix paddle clutch later
