its all down to personnal preferance.
I love working with omex, i find the mapping software tip top and easy to use. and its very easy to wire in.
Others like aurtrnics (sp)
Others like m-tech v4
sorry i know thats not much help but if it was me id buy omex.

Talk to who evers gonna map it and they'll reel off a few that they're comfortable with mapping. The cheaper you go the more raw the car will be to drive on a basic setup. They will all work and get the job done, but if your engine is 270bhp or over get something more advanced that can protect the engine at higher boost levels. At the higher boost levels I found the more finite adjustments of a better quality unit meant I didn't have Detonation problems because the fuelling tables allowed extremely fine increments etc.
Gotech, Omex, DTA, Pectel and the like are all easy to get hold of and run well. If your going for daft power look at Emerald, Autronic and Motec Stay away from MegaSquirt. Its relatively easy to get running but once it cocks up or you get random misfires, no one will touch it. I had a Focus on megasquirt n it was fine when it ran well but once it went wrong nobody knew anything about it or how to fix it

Don't know what the crap above if going for daft power go for emerald is ?
Just choose a ecu that does what YOU need, if you don't mind travelling to get set up, then this opens the choice up much more, don't pay just for a name.
The finished job is 99% down to the MAPPER, and 1% down to the ecu, personally I use as do all my mates and me dad Emerald K3, other things you might consider is back up if there is any problems, some ecu's made in other countries you will be waiting days for answers to things, and then get them after going through a third party supplier.
I use the only people who DESIGNED, MAKE AND FIT AND MAP thier own system, the Emerald K3, mapped by yours truly Dave Walker, was on the dyno yesterday with him and yet another different car(saxo hot hatch), rollers calibrated often and no erronous readings given unlike some.
He also does a standard charge for mapping £280, this is to have all THREE maps done if wanted, so if running several cars like me mates just unplug from one car to another and flick a switch job done, all upgrades to extra features are free just download, even some older ecu's can be upgraded cheaply to K3 spec.
Don't even touch anyone who doesn't map on the rollers, I must admit it makes me laugh when people say so and so is ace, I use him every year for a tune up, wtf exactly needs adjusting ? once it is set it is set, although you can fine tune the cold settings(cold enrichment), as the mapper whoever he is only gets one shot whilst the engine is cold, so experience comes into it a lot.
The other and main reason I use Emerald is due to thier honesty, Dave is not afraid to say "I don't know" when asked something he doesn't know, trsut me if he thinks a different ecu would better suit your needs he would tell you, he's always fully booked out, they even run a 2nd book for people on the waiting list for cancellations!!
When you hear some "experts" say that you can't get good emissions on greys for example, you realise the EX is a has been and the SPERT is a drip under pressure.
Mine is mapped on greys, and the CO is 0.97%, with 137ppm, runs 100% perfectly, jusy ask opposite lock on here, this is depsite it having 180,000+ miles on the bottom end.
The best thing I ever did was junk the piece of shit L6, pick up nearly 150 miles extra per tank driving easy, with much better performace, the boost control is unreal as it links more sensors than others for this feature, the split 2nd your foot moves away to less throttle from it's present position the boost is gone, no delay no nothing, same again when powering on.
Over the L6 set up by a "pro" I got 28bhp more with 9psi LESS boost.
I have personally been present when cars would not even power up the injectors due to problems, despite having been assured it was all ok by someone famous in cossie circles, long story short some twat/specialist stuck on a 36-1 with TWO tdc's sensed, 1 had a tooth missing/correct then 180 round there was a very low tooth, which wasn't being recognised, in the end car was started fixing probs on at 09:30, finished at 23:30, same £280 charge, the car had a new engine so left the boost slightly lower than full power till it's got a few miles, that didn't stop the car with a FIRST time on track driver breaking a class record at brands on his 2nd ever in his life race.
Another car dropped a loom secured stupidly by someone in Norway where the car came from for mapping using plastic clips in thre trans tunnel!!, fried the ecu £100 repair later dave/karl refused to charge the owner of the car for this as it was not his fault but his builders, cars from other countries are very regular just for a mapping job, he's also mapped some very unusual cars prototypes, one offs etc, but not for me to say what they are.
Just take your time so you get what suits your needs without paying over the odds just for a name, and good luck with whatever one you do choose.

Forgot to add, you get the software and the lead etc with the K3, and this is enough to map it completely, by anyone using a laptop/pc, every feature you need is accesible, nothing hidden that you need for mapping, though there are hidden features.
