Default fiesta mk4 1.3 rev counter

Hi

I have a 1.3 fiesta mk4 with no rev counter. If I fit the clocks from a mk4 fiesta that has a zetec engine with a rev counter, will my 1.3 be compatible. I know some cars are wired for a rev counter but it wasn't included within the low spec models, so was wondering if I get some clocks from a zetec fiesta/puma, will they plug straight up??

No, theres no sender, which is why the digi dash doesn't show revs in the revs bit.
You just need to find a 'pulse' and use an electronic rev-counter, tis the easiest option.

Or, just mtfu and use ear/speed. 1st is just under 30, 2nd under 50, 3rd under 70, 4th about 100ish, it runs out of puff, and 5th is a m-way cruising gear, if its a 1.3, which, if it is, it won't be a zetec. It'll either be a 1.3 endura, or a 1.25 zetec...

its a 1.3 endura, but am in the rigours of looking at future engine conversions. Someone had mentioned that you could try pulling the clocks out to see if there was a dormant cable for a rev counter. If so, stick one in from a better model, but if there's no rev counter cable I'll get an after market rev counter and sort something out that way

Theres no such thing as a "Sender" for the rev counter, newer cars use ECU for signal sure your one would, more than likely the loom is already there for it just need the dials from a higher spec model to fit.

ok, I used the wrong word. Theres no wiring for it, which is why the digidash doesn't work either.
You have to find a pulse and wire it yourself, or use the ecu.

So long as both engines use the same ignition system type ie coilpack, then will work easy, signal is one side of the coil(negative pulse).

oh ok sweet. I'll have a look at the wiring and see whats there, if its not much good I'll get an aftermarket rev counter and wire it in. Thank you for the help

If it's a std type coil ignition type it can still be used with a coilpack, simply using some 1N5408 diodes cost about 10p.
