poor fuel economy on Zetec?
i seem to be getting pretty crap fuel economy and wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to why - at the moment i'm lucky to get 75 miles to £20 (think price of petrol was 111.9p) - this is a mixture of motorway driving, and a few wee spirited blasts.
Its a 1.8 zetec, 130 ps with a cone filter and de-cat and thats it. Engine has just had an oil change and passed its mot recently no prob (emissions were fine) - was thinkin maybe MAF sensor or lambda? Or is that what I should be expecting with the horrific fuel prices the now?

you should be seeing far more than that pal i reckon, i reckon on about 60-80 miles to a tenner on a 1.8zetec, if you're right footign it heavily everywhere then it'll be spot on, but at the sweet spot on a motorway run you could even see upto 100miles to a tenner.
get the emissions checked, then you'll have an idea of the problem.

im getting the same on my focus 1.6, i use shell V-Power at 115 a litre and getting about 100miles on 20 quid, however i got this after i fitted my heat wrap on my four branch tubular and didnt put enough exhaust putty on the joint and it very slightly blows (will be sorting it) however, i tightened the joint up slighlty whilst my car was running and my engine idle changed so just check to make sure on that, just an idea.

my 1.8 focus did 70 miles to 20 quid too ( only had it a week) i thought it was shocking now lights not far off coming back on and done 120 miles to 30 quid and im being really carefull not to go over 3k revs lol im going to end up walking most places still!!
thinking about it i do have a slight manifold blow i think and when i turn the key first time in the morning i need to give it some revs or it wont idle
