Core plugs!
Hi there all
Hope you all had a good Christmas?
I am looking ofr some info on the core plugs. I have just found out that my engine has a huge hole in the front and one of the plugs are missing
What would cause this and would there be any other damage to something else due to this or is something knackered to make the plug come out (like frozen pipes) ??
My car was frozen up but the car wasn't started or even tried to be started while it was frozen. Its just that I filled the water bottle up and it satyed in there. When the car defrosted it was empty and when I filled it up the pissed out of the front from the missing core plug hole
Cheers peeps

the core plug's popped out due to the water being frozen(why didn't you empty the water out prior to the freeze or fill up with antifreeze)??? YOU may well be lucky that it just a case of refitting a new core plug and away you go!

The ladies love it French
Cracked the block as a worst case scenario, but the whole point of the core plug is to prevent this from happening.
Should always use plenty of anti-freeze at this time of year.

as above, worse case is that it cracked the block as water expands as it freezes. Know what u mean about just using water to check but as said in winter full stop you dont want to leave just water in it!! next time undo a pipe on the rad/engine so that u drain out as much water as poss.

Despite what people think, the core plugs were never fitted to stop damage from freezing water, they were to release gasses created when casting, but protecting the block is a bonus.
The freeze hasn't been too bad, I think you will be ok, only one way to find out anyway.
