Default Rusty, rounded ARB bolt...

Chaps,

I'm currently doing a front suspension renovation on a 4wd saff. At the moment I am doing battle with an anti-roll bar mounting bolt. The bolt is winning which is my problem. It is now fully rounded by a long way. I specifically purchased these for the job:

http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/...rwinProd100517

Using a system of levers underneath the car I was able to apply a good deal of force pushing the extractor onto the bolt. However, the little blighter is so rusted in that it just rounded at maximum spanner torque anyway - the children in the estate may have learnt some new words.

My question is this:

How do I get it out? I really, really do not want to drill it, but will do only as a last resort.

Does anybody have a magic tool to use that is vaguely near to Crewe?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Alex

Cut the bracket off so you can get a set of stilsons on it,apply a lotof heat and hope that does it.1 of mine was rounded and the other spun and spun due to the captive nut breaking its welds.i welded 2 welding rods to 2 new bolts and popped them through the hole in the side of the chassis leg.

The likelyhood of the bolt freeing from the captive nut and coming undone is doubtful but best chance would be to weld using shit loads of heat a old socket onto the rounded nut, or try to beg borrow steal a blowtorch apply as much heat as possible, it still may win and if so just drill the f&&&&R out and as said two bits of rod with nuts welded on slipped through hole works a treat, some go above the nut by cutting open the floor of car to reweld etc.
I weld a bit of cut coat hanger on to a nut, but use SS nut and bolt, with lots of coppaslip.
The reason irwin didn't work is the metal is too soft, I'd be amazed if any easy out worked, I have three different types of snap on ones and still wouldn't do it, if you want grind it off or if it snaps you could try centre punching then drilling progressively up to just under size then use a tap, might get away with recovering enough thread.

Right...

After being in Germany for over a month I'm back to the old girl.

I cut the anti-roll bar bracket off, which enabled me to drop the entire front suspension which has now been broken down as far as possible bar the hub nuts etc, ready for sand blasting.

Next plan is to apply a load of heat as advised and stilson the little blighter off. If the stilsons keep slipping then I'll weld a bar to it as advised.

Thanks for the help chaps.

Regards,

Alex

grind it back flush and drill it out, then use a tap to put a nice new thread on it.
you should have enough room to do this.

Forgot to update this...

I got the little blighter out. I had to weld bars and so forth onto it. I ended up using stilsons spending 6 hours getting a tiny bit more, then backing off, then a tiny bit more, then...

Just glad it's out.

Thanks for all your help.

regarding the ss nuts and bolts have you had problems with them siezing up when fitted using nut gun? heard of this problem with land rover wheel nuts but never actually seen it happen.
