Default THE ALL TIME QUESTION - DO DUMP VALVES WORK??

I have been reading on the internet about dump valves, some people say they work, some people say they don't. What are peoples views on dump valves?

they do dump air when u let off whilst on boost yes - but whether this asctually makes the car any better to drive - i feel not. it may slightly extend the life of your turbo, but running normal and up to around 1.5 bar boost, u wont do any damage imo, i dont run one any more and have no probs as many peope dont either.

My car is running much better with BOV fitted. It used to stop for half a second after each lift off of the throttle... But this could be failure of original DV according to Stu - and Stu@MSD is supposed to be the man WH KNOWS.

Dump valves on road cars are essentially for show - ie the sort of thing people like to hear as they drive up and down the high street.

I hear on small turbo car they actually reduce power output.

But they do help protect the turbo from ware.

Dunno why anyone wants em thou.... makes cars sound like a bus

I run 24-25psi on my Saph Cos and don't use a DV, the turbo is a t34 hybrid. I have been slightly worried about turbo wear and have considered using a DV but I don't like the sound as IMO it's so 3 years ago. Is there any evidence to suggest that I could damage my turbo if I continue to run without a DV?

I think they are good on high bost cars (around 30psi) and they do prevent turbo failure , I would go for a recirc' one though as i dont like the sound

They don't make your car any quicker, they're just for keeping the turbo spinning whilst you're changing gear to reduce lag.

I've heard rumours that alot of Dump Valves DON'T actually do this on the Escort RS Turbo. But Proven Products in Tavistock claim to have a solution that works.

I agree with the above though (sounding like a bus), I had a dump valve on my renault 5 about 5 years ago. I had one on my RST when I bought it, but bought some new samco hoses so I can take it off.

All PPs solution is, is a bleed valve in the vaccum pipe [so that negative pressure doesn't open the valve] to make a diaphram DV work - you have to mess with it to get a balance between the amount of dump you get and how well the car idles - not a really great solution IMO. A twin piston DV resolves this on an ERST anyway.

What a fooking stupid thing to do
Im sick of ripping piss poor systems like this off cars and explaining top the owner his car runs shit and uses loads of fuel because some goon has purposely given your engine an air leak

I run around 25 psi (stage 3) and really do not want a D/V.Is there any solid evidence that having no D/V will reduce the life of the turbo?

I know - its a right bodge up job - but when i was new to it all (and had this setup), it made the DV go 'pshhhttt' and that was all i was worried about at the time , even though the car stalled at every single junction !!
