Cos 3dr, chipped n tuned to run 2bar max boost. Had the then std head gasket replaced with a Comtec replacement 13mths ago, head skimmed etc. Now i believe the gasket has gone again because water temp goes up shapely when high boost is used (just as before). Now the advice im looking for is what is the next step, ie different make perhaps better quality gasket or do i do away with head bolts and go for studs in the block instead. Any ideas please..........
standard head bolts are fine; but i'm surprised a cometic has gone in that short space of time.
try a small turbo escort cosworth gasket; these are very good gaskets and alot cheaper.
make sure its torqued up correctly

Thanx guys, all points noted. I like you am also surprised over the Comtec as it was supposed to be GrpA type, but it might have a fault in it, as for torqued correctly that i can only say yes as it was put into a shop that deals with fast cars etc so i hope they knew what they were doing. The thermostat it a possibility but was new at the same time as the head work was done. Now iv heard that there is on the market a type of litmus paper that will show up if there is exhaust gases in the water, is this true or am i listening to fairy stories................
The easiest way to see if there are combustion gasses in the water is to go along to a mot place etc, then get them to place the sniffer in the cap opening(not the coolant!!) as you remove the cap, this will pick up any gasses present from combustion.
I always run the YBO 611 head gasket, and if using ARP stud and nut kit, you must torque, then wait at least 4 hours, then retorque again, I do this in sequence starting at 60lbft up 20lbft at a time to finish at 120lbft.
Lots of other people do it different.
Litmus paper tests for acidity not gasses.
