focus cruise control
hi all,
i've just bought a 2002 focus ghia 2.0 auto (for the missus!).
it comes with all the toys, including climate and is a really nice drive.
i just have 1 question about it that hopefully somebody will be able to answer!
it came with a ford leather stering wheel, with cruise control buttons on it, but they don't work!
now i just don't know weather they don't work because it may not be the original wheel, or was cruise standard on the 2.0 ghia?
i've also been told that if the battery is disconnected for a long period this can cause it to stop working? does anyone know if this is true?
thanks in advance.

It was an option on the GHIA, most likely it is on your car, but to make sure, see if there is a extra cable coming from the throttle housing going to a electric servo, usually mounted behind one of the headlights.
Afaik, disconnecting the battery will not affect the cruise, but often they are engineered to only work above a certain speed and up to a certain speed.

Tabetha is completely correct, but i too don't know what these upper and lower limits are on a Focus. 50mph is bound to be in the 'working' region tho

On the Focus, the CC servo is mounted behind the engine on the bulkhead.
Internally, as well as the steering wheel buttons, visual clues are that there are 3 switches on the pedal box instead of 2.
Although an option only on the Ghia in Europe, its a standard fit from mid trim levels in USA, including the SVT (ST170). Quite common retrofit over here using a US sourced Ford kit. Got one on my FRS engined MK2 Mondeo.
The lower cut-in speed is ~30mph, but I've not found an upper limit yet - authenticated by off duty authorities on the M40.
