Hi chaps.
I have a problem with my 2lt cosworth engine and I cant way it up.
I was getting the car ready for mot and left it ticking over.
once it warmed up it started to smoke white smoke it was that bad that I thought I would have to cancel the test, and then it stopped.
So I took it for mot passed no problem.
I noticed while the emission test was going on it was starting to smoke again but luckly the test was over and the engine was turned of.
Drove it back from test centfre no probs.
So today we went for a ride out went to my mates about 4 miles away slight smoking.
We set of on a run drove about 50 miles stopping in traffic and lights no smoke at all car ran ok.
Left the car for an hour or so drove back to my mates had a cuppa drove home no smoke.
Stopped on the street whilst the wife moved other car of the drive smoked like a traction engine.
Dont under stand why it seems to be intermitant.
It has a brand new turbo techics turbo only done about 300 miles.
can any one help.
One other thing the engines in a kit car and the ECU is be hind the shelf were I had put my phone, whilst we were out the phone went off and the engine cut out , as soon as the wife answered the phone moved it away from the ECU engine ok again.

If you are sure the smoke is white, it may just be due to cold(air) temperature where you are.
But I would keep the phone away from the ecu, and use resistor plugs as well, if not already.
Is the water level dropping ?, if not it's not water causing the smoke, but white is indicative of a oil leak into exhaust.

Im not sure if its water [head ] oil [rings and what not] but why does it do it now and again, I dont seem to be loosing water and the oil pressure seems good.
Could it be a hydrolic tappit I just cant wway it up. If I leave it running it seems to go away again.

Maybe the dreaded HG problem is starting ?

if the oilbreather pipe was blocked would this cause it , I have just found it kinked.
am I grasping at straws

If it is still connected into air box, but best if it isnt anyway.

we it did it again
went to whitby for a run out round trip of about 100 miles the car run ok dint seem to have the kick it normaly has, I changed the plugs Ill have to check them.
Any way got home left it running on the drive whilst I opened the garage no probs,
Drove it into the garage left it running for a sec and then it started to smock again I dont mean a bit I mean a fog it blasted it out, white smoke.
The thing is if I start it up tomorrow it wont do it
Ill have a go at the engine breather again, when I looked around the car the dip stick seemed oil as though oilhad been pushed by it
