Default Zetec Sumps, when did they change

I see a lot about silvertops and blacktop engines.

I know the later blacktop engine as fitted to the later focus had solid lifters and a 2 piece sump and -
The early engines from 1992 had a one peice sump and hydralic lifters but............

When (what date) did it all change???

For example in 1995, ford changed the injection manifolds on the Mk6 Escort and they no longer went over the top of the engine cover. Are these engines officially silvertop/hydrallic or are they blacktop/solid.

Is an engine from a 1998 (s Plate) mondeo a one peice or two piece sump? Im sure that age has a black cam cover??

The reason I ask is that I have a failed early silver top Zetec in a kit car with a ready modified sump and I want to get the newests/lowest mileage replacement possible. Whilst still using the existing sump and ancilliaries.

Thanks.

They changed in 98.. so you have to go by the type of cam cover typically.
