personally i dont care if the diesel box is stronger or not.... this is one of the age old arguments.... same as the whole whats less likely to break lsd and non lsd.... sorry dont want to start that one again!!!
my main reason for the change is the ratios, the mk3 xr3 boxes rev the nuts off the engine.... which is really good for drag racing and a thrash down the b roads! Unfortunately i feel I am breaking them by holding them too far up the range for extended periods of time.... plus i doubt its any good for the engine either! hence the diesel box.
cheers for the comments though, always nice when people show an interest!

i have been playing around with 4 speed, 5 speed mk3 boxes and then a diesel box in my cabriolets..
there isn t much difference between ratios of the normal box and the diesel box to be honest, the diesel box is stronger and can take more abuse as ive found out.
i currently use a diesel box, but thats coming out and i want to replace internals to sort me out with better ratios for 0-60 times, seeing as you cant seem to reach over 70 on the roads without getting caught anyway lol

lol well i put the diesel box in nw and it dose seam more nippy dont no if thats just me tho lol it works and drives thats what i wonted the only thing that had issue woz the trust bearing woz diff size so had to use the diesel one. But my next issue is me rear end when goin over a wet grid on the road it feels like my rear wheels are goin diff way than were i goin i thinken rear bushes ???? any tips
Give Bernie or Stuart a ring, tell him what your gearbox requirements are and power output and they will build you a gearbox to suit. I have got his gearboxes in all my Mk3 Escorts built to my ratios / final drives and never had a problem with them.
