turbo restrictors
i have the option of getting a group a turbo which unfortunatly has a restrictor fitted to the air intake.is it just a case of removing the restrictor and getting a larger intake hose or would i have to get another comp housing.

The restictor (like the one below) unbolts from the intake on the compressor housing, then have new one machined out to your desired internal diameter (without the restrictor) but with the same external diameter and length and retaining the portion that slides inside the compressor housing, re-bolt it back in...job's a good un....no need to change the front housing

turbo restrictor
teah tabz is right mine has two bolts opposite each other screwing down onto the flange and a 3rd screw at the top that seems to do sod all.the thing is with this housing the flange does not go any slimmer at the top for the hose to connect to.and the restrictor is way too small for a t34 hose to connect to.from tis i think that the comp housing has been modded in some way.surely there must be a way round this as i dont want to restrict the car.any more advice people?

turbo restrictor
unfortunatly not usb nacked on comp i dont think i can describe it any better all of the retrictor fits inside of the compressor flange it is a genuine group a restrictor as it has 909 stamped on it if that is any help.the main concern is as i say the fixed flange does not go thinner at the top edge for fitting the hose if the restrictor is removed.it looks as if (even though it hasnt)that the flange has been cut down ie the thinner part fore the hose fitting has been cut off.

turbo restrictor
the turbo as my profile picture is fitted with basically the same restrictor as mine .as you can see the inlet flange is shorter than standard.so as far as i can see the only two ways around using the restrictor are either to get a larger inlet hose or change the compressor housing.am i correct in thinking this.as it looks like the inner of the flange has been machined to take the restrictor

This is what I mean...
This is as it is with the restrictor....
Either have the one you've got machined to suit the hose and remove the restriction...or make a whole new piece without any restriction and which suits your intake hose and that replaces your exisitng restrictor and mimics the original compressor housing dimensions....

10K+ Poster!!
My old t34 originally had a restrictor fitted, similar to the one [/b]ian sibbert[/b] posted above
So i made this to do away with the restrictor
it was then refined to do away with the unpleasant step/chamfer

Making an outlet like that is really stright forward pal....any local engineering shop should be able to do you one...i'd guess about £50, if you get no joy send it to me and i'll knock you one up....

I have a lathe but can't do those restrictors in piccie, not good enough yet!!
Have turned down some sockets for roosie to fit his head with long studs as std socket won't go in hole, quite proud of myself I was.

Not sure on cost tbh as i knocked it up at work from a bit of spare aluminium
Nice offer from Ian there
Nice to hear you're getting on well with your lathe tabetha, its just a case of thinking before you cut anything and not rushing into it, oh and practice. What lathe have you got? I'd love one in my garage at home.
