hi guys ive got a saph 4x4 coz an i have a problem with the tappets. they have always become noisy on idle after about a minuite. this engine was fully rebuilt about 2000 miles ago by myself. since the rebuild ive fitted new genuine ina tappets and found no difference worringly but naturley i suspected low oil pressure! so i plumbed in a op guage into the oil filter housing and found that even when the oil is at 100'c the pressure never falls below 1.8/1.9 bar (WHICH IS IN SPEC) yet they stil start to tap on idle!
im pullin my hair out now with this thing an i dowanto take the head bak off cus the gasket cost over 100£
anyhelp would be appreciated
thanks

try relocating the oil take off for the turbo. on the 4x4 it comes out of the side of the head which means it takes some pressure away from the head. try blanking this & using the 2wd setup where the turbo takes its supply from the oil pressure swith take off. to do this you will need 2wd turbo oil feed pipe, adaptor union & either a different oil filter (escort 1.8 zetec filter fits nicely on mine ) or mess about moving the position of the ally oil takeoff the oil filter screws to to provide clearance for the oil feed union. also a suitable bolt to blank off the oil feed on the head

thanks, i have actually thaugt about doing that. but it still dousent explane what the problem actually is.
also another thing is on a morning when the engine is stone cold, when you start it it takes about 6 or 7 seconds for the oil pressure light to go off! and during this period all the tappet am rattling their bo***ks off, 6 seconds seems way too long for a oil pressure light to go off, it should go off after 1 or 2 secs shudnt it???
thanks for the info

well dunno if this helps but i had noisy tappets, i got new ones dipped them in oil and fitted them and they were even louder, then i took them back out left them in a pot of hot oil for about 15 mins so the oil panitrates right into them and put them all back in and is now fine

i cant see it bein that because its ok when you drive it indercating that the oil has penetrated into the tappets ok.
im thinking oil pressure to the tappets is too low or even to the head!
if the block has 2bar oil pressure then shudnt the head have 2bar pressure??
im confused, my oil pressure in the block in just about in spec

Like you say it seem like there isnt sufficient oil to the cylinder head therefore the tappetts arent getting what they need.
I cant see changing the turbo oil feed pipe position as being the cure tbh as there are loads of other 4x4 cossies out there using the standard oil feed take off and are perfectly fine, mine included.
If you have perfect oil pressure then i would suspect something amiss with the head possibly.
