alright ppl i'm gunna be goin down the turbo route with my mk5 esco n i was thinkin of a 1.6 zetec turbo instead of puttin in a cvh efi turbo cos the engine in it atm is a 1.4 cvh carb, i don't really wan't to go over 1600cc cos i drive alot of miles n with the way petrol is goin i don't wan't some monster 2.0 liter turbo empty'n my pocket's at the fuel station
, and also the price of tax now ![](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/angry.gif)
i'm not lookin on spending loads of money but will wan't to uprate internal's to make it more reliable for everyday use, long journey's and also when i drive it hard
, n e advice on the right route to go down would be great cheer's ppl

Turbocharging the 1.6 is no different than a 2.0.. you need pistons.. turbo.. uprated valvetrain.. manifolds.. injectors.. ecu.. loom.. fuel system.. mapping........... lots of money

cheer's for that i'm guessin i'll be payin abit of a price to get a turbo in it but wot u rekon the less hassle aproatch is a zetec or a cvh turbo, i no there is already a cvh turbo but cons i'm already going to replace most the internal's wot is going to be better valiue for money, meanin if it's gunna cost me like 10k to do a zetec turbo but only 5k to do a cvh turbo for nearly the same proformance

You need to decide how much power you want. The 1.6 head is quite different to the 1.8 and 2.0 and flows a lot less air, however for say 200bhp turbocharged, it'd be very responsive and sharp! For over that power figure you'd be better off with a 1.8 or larger engine.
The 16v engine is better in every way to the 8v one, it's an easy decision.

you'd have a happy 200-220 bhp with standard internals and save yourself a realistic Ł1000 on new internals! Gotta be worth a thought!? If it was me, drop in a N/A 2.0 zetec, few tweeks and that or use a cvh turbo engine. Or buy a new car with it already done!

cheer's for that lad's been a big help n atleast put me in the ball park, n i'd be quite happy with 200bhp for a run about, would the standard internal's ie crank n rod's n bearing's be reliable at 200bhp i'd put forged piston's in just for piece of mind, n would i have to run it on a mega squirt or summit, cheer's

Yeah, standard crank and rods are fine for that power level. You'd ideally want to replace the pistons, yes. You would need aftermarket management and most likely some uprated valve springs in the head, which may prove an interesting challenge on a 1.6.

I don't know anyone who has ever done them for a 1.6 head.. there is probably something off the shelf that will fit, or something that would require minimal modification to the head to fit.. but it's development work. Of course, someone may already know of a package, alas I do not.
