Default Cat C write off ?

A friend of mine has just bought a fiesta off a bloke he used to work with and he's been having abit of trouble getting a new log book as the previous owner lost it he's sent off the form to the dvla but he aint heard anything back yet.
He sent the reg to one off them history checking people after he seen it on the tv and it came back saying that the car had been written off in a cat C the cars been off the road for nearly 3 years and at some point this supposed damage has been repaired as weve had a look over the car theres no creases in the floor plan or roof and all the panel gaps are the same.
The question is though is he going to have trouble getting the log book if its been written off ? ive not come across this with any of my previous cars so i aint got a clue how it all works Cheers for reading my essay lol and thanks for your help in advance
Mark.

It'll need the vosa test before a new log book is issued. There's a lot of MOT testers on here would be able to explain the process

I'd wanna know why it was written off myself. Cat C indicates more serious damage

Cat c means uneconomical to repair doesent mean its a lot of damage just menas it cost alot to repair .
i have repaired alot of cat c cars and sold them on it will take a while to get the log book or if it is a cat c then the DVLA will write to you letting you no that your car needs a VIC check or Vosa this will cost about £355 last time i did it all they do is check that the car is not a ringer or a cut and shut but you will need a valid Mot to take it to a Vosa

think u made a typing error mate its £35 the guys probably just had a heart attack and that include your fee for the logbook and your logbook should come within 2 weeks of the vic check nowadays

also the car maybe have had a vic check already but does,nt sound like it , sounds like the guy saying hes lost the logbook was just an excuse

Sounds like the bloke was being a bit underhand to me mate, unless it was cheap cheap I would be getting my money back.

He is likely to have owned it since being damaged, and so is likey to have repiared it, if this is the case he should have informed you of the cat c status by law.

Your choice, but if it fails the vorsa check then I would take it back.

it was only a hundred quid so its not that expensive at all hes only goin to be using it over the winter.
The bloke he bought it off said he bought it without tax or mot as abit of a project as it needed some welding done and it sat on his drive for 2 years and did nothing with it until my mate made him an offer for it.Weve taken the bumpers off to do some welding and theres no damage behind them no creases in the floor pan as weve taken the carpet out for welding so it must of been repaired before the lad got it because ive been over the whole car and cant find anything out of place no dodgy filler or overspray so im stumped.
yeah i did nearly have a heart attack at £335 but if its only £35 its not too bad and theres a vosa testing center near me so its not to bad to get there either thanks for your replies guys.

bought my sons 1st car a 1.1 106 from a salvage yard which was a Cat C the damage was 2x headlights, front bumper and dent in bonnet, ALL damaged parts were bolt on jobbies and I managed to find them in the same colour over the course of a few weeks once fitted had to book it in for a mot and then a vic check and away he went(had it for 2 yrs) without any problems!

ps at the bottom of the log book it will state that the vehicle is a Cat C (IF YOUR UNLUCKY)!

i've had over 10 cars that were cat c and were just stolen recovered
and if it was to fail the vic test then you cant take it back cause they'll take it off you as the cars a jerry springer,
dont worry it wont be, theres less than 1% ever show a problem, even then its usualy just a parts issue
