Default Locking Rear Wheel

Hello chaps.
I have a problem with a locking rear wheel on a 2wd sapph cossie. Its like driving with the handbrake on and even locks completly. Only happens on the rear passenger side but not all the time ( but 90% of the time ). Could this just be a seized calliper or is the diff fooked.
Cheers.

The handbrake mechanisms are famous for seizing up on these calipers, but refurbed calipers not too dear.

yes as tab says, unhook the handbrake cable and give it another try...if it still locks i'd be looking at the caliper itself for signs of seizing....sometimes the arms that the cable mounts to seize up (the spring loaded arm for the handbrake) so try freeing that off or get it rebuilt.

Ebay for a replacement if you need.

I have a set of these on my Mk4 Escort and had exactly the same problem and they hadnt long been re-conned! The disc got so hot it went blue!

Copper slip where the arm passes through the handbrake cable and dont leave the handbrake on if the car is going to be stood for a while, this is how i reckon mine decided to play up!

does the wheel rotate by hand when you jack the car up? can you feel it binding? Did the caliper come off the disk easily?

Good luck.

Dan

P.S. Dont forget to check your brake fluid level and pump your brakes before setting off....did exactly same as you once and forgot to pump the pads together in the calipe i'd took off.....thankfully the handbrake and dropping down into 1st gear slowed me enough not to have a bump....rookie mistake ot make looking back now.

The wheel does rotate a little by hand when i jack the car and the calliper was a little hard to get off but i think this was the lip on the disc holding it on. I will drive it tmmrw and see what happens but more things are telling me its the diff.
