Subaru Starting Problem
I appreciate this is not the best forum to ask about this but i got next to nothing fromt he guys on Scoobynet and thought I'd try the helpful lot on here:
It's a problem when starting the car from cold or if it's been sitting for 10mins+. It takes ages to fire for some reason.
I've checked the history and a Crank sensor was replaced a couple of years back for the same symptoms and cured it.
The problems is, i've had a new Cam and Crank sensor tried on the car. Fuel pump is next up as it seems to take an age to prime.
It never fails to start, just sick of being embarrassed when I try to start it front of anyone after I left it off for 10mins+.
Forgot to add, I've also replaced the Coolant Temp sensor, MAF and O2 sensor with no joy. And if I switch it off for less than 10mins, it fires no problem?
I'm puzzled! HELP!
Cheers
JK

I would check the rail pressure by hooking a gauge and see exactly how long it takes to prime, and the fuel pressure is correct as well, to start with.
When was the fuel filter last changed ?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that its a 1998 STi Type R (V4).
Fuel pressure was 36psi according to the gauge. I've now removed the adjustable reg and it's back on a standard Subaru one (partly to rule out any issues).
It's going in for a new Fuel Pump next Thursday and i'll throw on a fuel filter aswell in the mean-time.
Thanks for your help guys, it's been pissin me off for ages and it's the only thing that's been ruining what is brilliant car.

Yes mate, but nothing serious just a de-catted exhuast and panel filter.
The guy who tunes them up here suspects the fuel pump or wiring after we put the fuelling back to standard (i.e standard regulator etc).

Very funny Aaroncast - what do you drive??
Azrael - I've had the fuel pump done and basically gone over everything on the car. Any little things that weren't looking 100% have been sorted or replaced. All sensors are spot-on yet the the car still struggles.
Options left are - ECU or weeping injector as it reeks of fuel sometimes but doesn't give out any black smoke.
I spoke to the old owner and it was also like this before the engine went pop and he replaced it.
Leaves me to think it's the ECU - Apexi time?

My saph had a similar fault when it was overfuelling, it would coke up the plugs, then it would have trouble starting. You did mention that you could smell fuel, so you could also have an overfuelling issue causing the same problem??
It's got to be the ECU i'm thinking now, especially if it was like this before the engine went too. I was thinking it could've been wiring if it was only after the engine was re-fitted.
