Default 400bhp YB needs firing up again after 2 years! Help needed with wiring and plumbing

Ive just got the car back from the garage and I need plenty of help as this is my first YB !
engine needs wiring up and all the extra bits fitting to it:

Heres my list of things to look at so far:

Plugs, leads, dizzy cover
coolant hoses
vacuum leads
throttle cable, clutch cable
need to check actuator
fit dump valve
fit wiring loom or make a new one?

go for a new loom if your competent at making one, if not there is a few guys on here that can get new ones

is it a fresh built engine or a used one?

before you fire it up, remove the coil lead and turn the engine over on the key to build up oil pressure and to make sure the turbo has oil circulating

yep will do, cheers for the advice,

now all i need to know is which pipe goes where!
I can figure out the sensors i think for the wiring loom and ill have a go at the wiring loom, ive done a few french car looms before so have the experiance.

Is there a wiring diagram available? i paid for gold membership again for the tech essays which had loads of usefull stuff but it seems to have disapeared or not transferred from the old site

I'd take plugs out, put a small amount of oil down each bore, change oil and then take coil lead off, crank for oil pressure and if all seems ok then start...

1. Connects to hose from header tank.

2. Hose goes to one of the vacuum take offs on the side of the plenum (3,4 or 5). Doesnt matter which one as they will all have the same amount of vacuum. Dont 'T' anything into this hose as it may affect the operation of the regulator and make sure you use a clip on either end of the hose to keep it secure and to make sure it doesnt leak.

3,4 and 5. Vacuum take offs. One the fuel pressure regulator, one for the map sensor and another for the vac pipe to the dump valve. Regarding the map sensor hose, the same rule applies as per the fuel pressure regulator.
If you need to 'T' into a vac hose for whatever reson, do it on the dump valve pipe or fit another take off.

6. This is where you fit the dump valve if you choose to run one.

7. This is the distributor.

8. Thats the power steering pump.

Hope that helps!

cheers dude!

Managed to sort out the files int he tech archive! I wasn't filtering them properly!
I now have the wiring diagram for the L8 ecu im using.

Could someone help out identifying the engine parts on the these pics?

1) White connector?, black connector?, oil cooler pipes and oil expansion tank pipes?
T-Union at the back? oil pressure? turbo oil feed

2) Brass vacuum hose?, actuator hose? oil feed and water feeds for the turbo, coolant or oil from the vent in the head?

have you got a cossie loom for it? the plugs are coloured coded

yes, that´s the oil pressure switch

the brass valve on the compressor housing goes to the amal valve, i assume you have one

on the amal valve it will have 3 take odd, one for the compressor housing, one for the actuator and one for atmosphere or originally back to air box

an amal valve looks like this and site on the top of the intercooler on a convential sierra cosworth

on the amal valve it will be labelled where they go

w = wastegate/ actuator
R = airbox (as you have a filter you can just leave this one as is)
C = compressor (being the brass one in your pic)

aye, im not sure what sort of boost control there was before or whether the amal valve was used.

I guess ill wire it up the best i can and take it to one of the traders on here whoevers local to me to get it started up and checked on a dyno as I have no experiance with turboed engines

it could be that they had a boost controller which wasnt standard, i´ve seen that quite a few times

where are you in the UK?

what power are you going for? whats the complete spec?

Crank shaft sensor, Dizzy plug (Phase sensor), yes look like oil cooler pipes

T-Union at the back? oil pressure? turbo oil feed
Oil pressure switch and i think turbo oil feed

LHD220Turbo has answered the rest for you

to be honest, that isnt´t going to be difficult to set that up yourself, i have no experience of A1 ralleysport chips, if its a good chip/map it should be fairly straight forward, just make sure you get the Idle and CO% right and it should be OK

But its always worth while getting it setup on wideband, just to make sure the AFR is spot on
