Unhappy 3dr cos gearbox drama

i have just had a drama with the cos, its not wanting to go into gear very well, had to drive home in third only, when at a standstill it will go into 1st to 3rd and 5th and reverse no fourth. very stiff and crunchy with lots of noise, is thier and outside the box selector plate that could be worn or would it be a gearbox off job to check it out???

I had mine rebuilt because the sincro had gone, that was really hard to get into gear. That cost me the best part of Ł400,

I would make doubly sure first you are getting full clutch travel, as it is easier than a box out job, otherwise box out job it is.

the clutch is defo working tabetha, i drove it home from camp but only in 3rd mate, so the clutch is good too, just wondering if there is a selector holding bolt or something on the outside of the box, i know it has to come out anyway but just trying to get an idea if its just going to be a matter of tightening a screw or a strip down of the box to resolve the problem?

Could also be the spigot bearing in the end of the crank. I'd also check clutch travel like Tabetha said & if you whip the box off check for high spots on the flywheel.

Good luck

sounds a bit silly but is the spigot bearing the one that is in the bell housing that attaches to the clutch fork or is it somewhere else???

thanks JB

Thats alright mate !!

My brother had same sort of symptoms as you on his Saph (2wd), put a new clutch kit (inc release bearing), machined flywheel & new spigot bearing in & sorted it !! It turned out to be the spigot in the end.

I think your refering to the clutch release bearing, otherwise known as the thrust bearing & sits on the input shaft of the gearbox attached to the clutch fork.

The spigot bearing sits in the end of the crank, so the input shaft slots into it when slotted onto the engine. Their cheap, bout 10-15 quid I think or might be cheaper.

still a box out job if it's the spigot

undo the plastic panel around the gear lever and make sure the selector bolts haven't come loose at the end of the gearbox first, nice and easy to do and you won't get greasy or cramp looking either

Talking

i think it will be the spigot bearing then, i just got a clutch plate of ebay 25 squid posted, will get the spigot thing then whip it off, may as well go for the machining to as JB says, it would benefit to lighten it as well i should imagine, there is a place near me that does all that stuff so while it off i will do that.

thanks again for all the help chaps
