after seeing the motors at croft it has spurred me on to sort the yb in my 3dr.
what i`d like to know is if i get my head ported etc,fit my t34 (rebuilt with a 360` and 48mm),rebuild engine, get some greys or seimens blacks.
is it worth getting some adjustable verniers and forged pistons and conrods now or when block is stripped down (i intend getting all parts over a period of time as i`m not loaded (who is with a cossie?)) i also intend getting a closed loop lambda sensor with a l8 ecu (hopefully sorted from M.A.D.) probably before rebuild etc,
please help as i want to do it right first time, hopefully i am on the right track but i`m sure i`ll be told otherwise if not.

If sticking with std cams I would not bother with verniers.
I would look at aftermarket ecu's and add up all the prices of a converted set up to L8 with coilpack etc, then you will see the price advantage of aftermarket, and then have the added advantage of a lot more featrures with most, as well as doing anything the L8 can do even when converted.

tabetha just hates the standard cossie managment ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Im going T2 on my new engine![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
verniers can be timed but only give a slught slight advantage.. not really worth while for the cost of them.. but if your chasing big power then every litte helps

The standard Mahle cast pistons are reliable to over 500bhp and so are the standard rods, so unless you're knocking on 600bhp I wouldn't be too concerned. Long-studding would be a worthwhile investment.

if your on a budget imo i wouldnt bother going for after market management
if your only using a t34, L8 and standard internals will be more than enough

cheeRS,i didnt fancy aftermarket management having been quoted for one,Ł`s yeah it was all singing dancing made the tea etc also didnt like the idea of having my loom chopped up especially as L8 can have closed loop lambda set up on it
thats good news about the standard kit as i have saved up enough to get the forged gear looks like t34`s gonna get rebuilt earlier.

i agree t34 even with a .63 would struggle to make that power.
send it off to universal turbos and have it made in to a T38 then you can make that power no probs

unless they is any specific reason why you want head work and cams? save you money, you dont need them for 420bhp

no specific reason to want head and cams just i was advised to if i wanted to use 1 t34.
if i do end up going with my t34 what realistically will i get from it,i didnt want to get to big a turbo for reasons of lag,but will i get much lag with a t38??????????????????

a t34 with the biggest exhaust housing (.63) will make around 400bhp'ish. It all comes down to how much you want to spend. a t34.63 wont be that laggy, it wont spoll up as quick as a t34.48 but you'll find a.63 will pull much harder later in the rev range compared to a .48.
dont go chasing numbers unless you want 420bhp for any particular reason; its much better to have a nice fast road engine.

cheeRS,was only going for 420 as i was told it was obtainable with a t34
i`m not interested in pub boasting figures just want to be quicker than my
mates civic type-r turbo (bloody jap tat) that he dont shut up about
![fighting10.gif](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/fighting10.gif)
are greys still a good idea then dont want to do a piston with dark greens

greens will be OK to about 380ish
greys will do 430-450ish
your car with that spec will be able to make 320-330bhp no problem, dont get too hung up on the t34.
your looking at Ł400 for a 2nd hand t34, and more money to change the chip (get a decent chip as well, such as MSD) for an extra few horses, personally i would bother
depending on where you live; you'be be better off spending Ł150+VAT for a decent set up with your current spec at MSD or MAD

i had it set up and i got 293!!!,should i go elsewhere then (he was worried with 96k on the clock turning the boost up it would go bang)
i already have the t34 (needs a rebuild though) bit of sideways play!
not wise i gather fitting it with my current spec y/n

decide what bhp you want first then spec your engine from that; a t34 with the biggest housing (.63) is only going to give you approx 380-400, so standard head and cams can achieve this quite easily
as a guide my engine spec is
t34.55 -31 actuator
55lb blacks
rs500 cooler
standard engine & head
msd chip
and with this spec i'm expecting between 350-380bhp

this quote is more realistic ^^^.... 420-430 requires light head work and on the limit of a T34... if not too much... for a 400-480 spec i'd say a GT30...
if your wanting 450ish i'd recommend pistons, rods, head work, oil pump, gt30 fueling to match as in pumps/injectors....
lets face it 400+ starts getting expensive run 400hp safe and just enjoy it imo...

to be honest these figures seem great to me,again it was only cos i was
told a t34 would do 420,should i get rid of the greys and get light blues or
will a closed loop lambda sensor stop overfueling with the greys

now hows about this,at what stage do you start thinking about air
injectors and coil packs (i had a transit van with a yb in and had loads of
trouble with the plug leads etc)??(not that i am thinking bout investing in
them)
am i getting ahead of myself just that i`ve read so much about them
being great,i know if air injectors pack up then chances are you lose your
engine
