Dont bother. You will get little of nothing without spending a fortune. Just save your cash for when you can afford something better.

You won't get a noticeable increase in speed without spending thousands.

im not after more speed all im asking is if theres a way to give it a bit more poke ie better pick up for getting out and passing ppl on the motorway and stuff like that.. i drove it home lastnight and for a 1.4 it seemed to be ok but it wouldnt give me loads of response if i drooped a gear and went out to pass someone

'better pick up' is the same as 'noticeable increase in speed'

answered your own question really! dont bother. all u can do is exhaust and filter and then it will just sound like anyother 17ur olds chaved up saxo.

just leave it as it is and what its is designed for- An every day car.

when u have some more money you can buy a faster car

You are contradicting your self a bit here. You say you can afford somethign better then saying you bought the 1.4 to save money?

Will the extra tax and inssurance of a 1.8 Escort Si be more than an induction kit, exhaust etc for the 1.4? I doubt it but if you shop around you can find 130 bhp spec Si yet your 1.4 with a induction kit, exhaust etc wll still only have 75ish bhp. The Si will probaly be better on fuel saving you more money that can afford but cant. The TDI Escort while not brilliant will be quicker than the 1.4 and better on fuel saving you more money that you can afford but can't.
