Quick intro, bought a xr4i, saved it from a scrap yard, and surpize surprize i have probs.!a couple of the threads were threaded in the inlet manifold that holds the water housing, and the gasket that bolts it to the head looked a bit suspect, so i swapped it for a better condition inlet and new gasket, i had to remove the dizzy and plenum chamber, to attach the inlet, i replaced the gasket for the plenum. and put the dizzy back from where it came from in the right place i think! but the prob is now the car is not turning over properly, and after about 5-10 turns of the engine, it sounds like the battery is dead, and the starter motor wont turn over. But if i take the battery out and put it in another car, the batt is fine. There is alot of wiring loom damage where one of the previous owners/idiots have installed sounds and neons badly. It sounds like there is some sort of short on the car but i dont know where to start to look, or wether its not that complicated. Is this a common fault? Or does anyone have any clues to why the car is acting in this way? The car was running fine before i touched it, although it did cut out once a couple of days before i did the repair, and the batt sounded dead, although i bump started it and it ran fine again with no probs. Wierd!! any ideas to help we get this 6 cylinder petrol guzzler back on the road will be much appreciated.

Not turning over properly, sounds like the ignition may be way too advanced, try doing a dizzy swing whilst someone else operates the starter.
