Default engine problems a possible cure?????

Please bare with me this post may be a little long. I replaced the engine in my escort. It was a 1.4 PTE and changed it to a 1.6 EFI, now the fuel injection system on the PTE engine is SEFI (same as the zetec) and didnt need an edis module.whereas the EFI one did. When i changed the ecu in the car for the 1.6 one i wasnt getting a spark (as no edis module )so changed it for the 1.4 one and engine runs but is underfuelling. Now question is if i change the ecu to one from a 1.6 zetec do you think it will work? If it doesnt i am gonna have to change the whole loom to one from a mk5 with an edis module. Opinions please.

Change the loom as the 1.6 has an integeral EDIS module built in to the PCM
