Wink Xr2 No spark

Hi i have a 1989 Fiesta Xr2, The problem is it wouldnt start so went through the usuals fuel spark etc to find i have no spark.
When i put a multimeter across the coil with the ignition turned on there is no voltage is this correct?
Anyone got any suggestions as to what it could be and any ways of testing various components to eliminate them Thanks in advance

pretty sure it controls all that!common for these to go down fella!might be worth of course trying the simple things i.e rotor arm cap etc first!
