Default Help needed re:cossie electrics

Hi, i'll start at the beginning & try & keep it short as pos!

I bought an ISO connector so i could fit my headunit to my saph cossie, when i plugged it in i smelled burning straight away so i unplugged it & put the old radio back in.

Now when the ignition is switched off there is no power, no clock,no central locking & i have to put the radio code in everytime i start the car! Luckily the alarm & imob is wired directly to the battery so still work!

Somethings obviously burned out somewhere ,or maybe a fuse has gone? I have no idea where to start with this one though!

Any advice is welcome, thanks

It would seem that the permanent live has disappeared, for the stereo, which also does a few other things that are live all the time like clock etc.
It is either the RED or the YELLOW wire to the connector, one is ignition swithced, one is permanent live, can't remember which is which, so you will have to have a prod and see, check the fuses, and wiring as far as you can, I seem to remember the permanent live comes also from the ignitions witch area input side, but could be mistaken.

Thanks for the reply mate, i guessed that i'd klled the permanent live but the wiring must have died somewhere near its source for it to kill the central locking aswell otherwise surely it would only be the radio/clock that would go?

Does any one know where the permanent live wire goes to? Is it near the ignition or somewhere else?

Will really save me a lot of time & hopefully i wont go mad trying to pull the dash to bits

cheers

check fuse 10 for a start it controls central locking, clock, power mirrors, interior lights
see how you get on, and then we'll take it from there

On a Ford of this age red is always a fused permenant 12v feed, and you should find the yellow is switched 12v when you turn the key to auxiliary position 1.

Burning doesn't good though - is it a cheapo head unit?

I'll take a look at the fuses again tomorrow & report back.

The head unit is a top of the line JVC one.

Thanks for the help

With the fuse being gone and the headunit plugged it you may have started back feeding another circuit and could explain the burning smell.

If everything is working ok now its more than likely all fine though.
