Default Best Way To Turbo A 16V Zetec Engine?

Right this is something i realy want to do.

Ive read alot of things about turbo'ing a zetec engine but which is the best and most efficiant way to do it at home?

What guides are about to help me do this? ive seen a few on ebay where you pay to get the info put what are they like?

Ive also found this on the internet what has alot of information on how to do it but no pictures to help me along the way what will be realy helpful.

http://turbo.me.uk/?p=home

Im no machanic ive rebuilt many motorbike engines and i have rebuilt the top end of a zetec before but i have never done anything as big as fitting a whole turbo system and everything else what is needed for it to work, new exhaust manifolds etc.

It wont be a rushed project its something i want to do to my engine.

This is the spec of my engine i already have:
FIESTA RS1800i ,ESCORT MK5 GEARBOX CASING WITH CUSTOM GEARBOX BUILD WITH ESCORT RS1600i INTERNALS, PORTED AND POLISHED GAS FLOWED HEAD,2.0L INLET MANIFOLD,UNICHIP,K&N AIR FILTER,CUSTOM STAINLESS ESCORT COSWORTH STRAIGHT THROUGH EXHAUST (CANT REMEBER REST,WILL FIND OUT) ITS PUSHING OUT 165BHP ATM

oops caps

is this a good base or should i start from scratch?

Any help would be much appriciated as i want to do alot of research before i even take the engine out of the car

Do you understand the size of the answer needed to fully answer to our question?
Also, "best" and "most efficiant way to do it" don't usually really go together well. If you have something more specific, I'm happy to help.

im not after anything to complex as its going to be my first major engine mod. Im good with mechanics but ive never turbo'd anything before.

Im not looking for huge BHP i just want to turbo my engine the simplist way to get a idea of things.

Also im not looking for a huge answer just need pointing in the right direction of the best turbo guide, thats if there is a guide about on it

my simple advice would be...

t3 turbo and exhaust from a ERST
managment and inlet from a FRST
(they will both need modifing to fit)
a decompression plate
ERST intercooler
then the ecu will need to be remapped with bigger injectors

thats all i know for the easy way to get a turbo zetec.
should see 190-200ish

just read your spec again...

you seem to have spent good money on the spec you have, so the choice is yours, personally id add cams and a st170 manifold to your spec.

but the final decision is yours

this is the spec i would use on a budget,

secondhand 2.0l engine Ł150 (and fook the 1.8 bottom end off )
bebore to 2.1 litres ,honed , drilled and tapped for extra breather ports Ł200/300
rods and pistons Ł1000 (area six motorsport) (these are a must for reliable power)
erst manifold Ł30
all new gaskets Ł100
new oil pump Ł70
new water pump Ł50
focus multilayer headgasket from ford Ł30
your head Ł n/a
standard cams Łn/a
single uprated valve springs (area six motorsport ) (these are amust if you are running over 12psi)
your rs 1800 inlet Łn/a (with idle valve taken off and use of a fiesta turbo throttle body)
fiesta turbo throttle body Ł30
rs 1800 sump Łn/a
drilling and welding for oil returns on your sump front and rear Ł40
t34 turbo Ł850
arp headbolts Ł100
injectors x4 Ł250
cossie air filter Ł100
boost pipes stainless or alloy Ł150
silicon pipes Ł250
bailey breather tank Ł200
fiesta turbo ecu ofab + wiring harness Ł250+
fuel pressure reg Ł100 (weber to permitt use of your fuel rail)
cvh flywheel with holes drilled out to 11mm
all new sensors , water ,air ,cam ,crank etc Ł150
2.5 bar map sensor Ł75
ap racing clutch Ł380 (area six motosport)
and finally a live map Ł250 (ahmed bajoo highly recomended)
all this should see a genuine 300+ bhp at 20 psi

you could then sell the unwanted 2.0 litre head Ł100 and the 1.8 bottom end Ł100 to get some cash back

these are all rough prices and you may be able to find alot of stuff cheaper on ebay , passionford etc

hope this helps

cheers paul

exhaust manifold, loom, ecu, maybe turbo, but not much power out of T3 on 2,0.
