Default Mark 6 Fiesta 1300 duratec engine

Every morning when i start the car a whineing noise sounding like a hen developes and then disapears when the car warms up. The car then runs fine. Any ideas as this noise is irritating. I have sprayed WD on the alternater wheel etc, but to no avail. The noise only appears when i accelerate, not when car is just ticking over.

Help!

Try a new fanbelt and cleaning the pulley wheel on the alternator and bottom pully on engine that drives it.
It is worse when it is cold because it is putting back current used to start the car so under more load, if not that it may well just be noisy bearings but these are more of a chiiinging type noise, like a musical chain is the best way to describe it.
You could even try temporarily disconnecting the alternator when you start it first thing to see if it stops the noise then you know for sure.

Have only had this car 9 months and it is doing my head in! if its not one thing its another! So far the clutch went, Power steering rack went ( really expensive) exhaust changed due to knackered, and starter motor too! Never had a car let me down this much, and its a Mark 6 fiesta with only 28,000 on clock.

i am hoping it is just a new fan belt needed and not a timing chain with tensioner!

The noise only lasts until the car warms up and then goes and it does not appear again until the next morning.

Just irritating!

doubt it would be the chain or tensioner really. if that was at fault you'd have all kinds of wierd noises!

how far is it out of warranty?

Default noises

Hi James....its a late 2002 model, so no warranty.......the noise apears once you start it in the morning and does sound like a pulley whining noise. It then disapears when car reaches normal temp and runs beautiful.
